One strict maximum per axis
Choose 3, 4 or 5 hazards on a 4×4 board. Exactly one row must contain strictly more hazards than every other row, and exactly one column must contain strictly more hazards than every other column. Ties for either maximum are illegal. The leading row and leading column need not have the same count. All 144, 1008 or 1632 legal layouts respectively are equally likely and remain fixed during a round.
Legal and illegal maxima
With 3 hazards, A1, A2 and B1 is legal: row A has two hazards and column 1 has two, strictly leading the other rows and columns. A1, A2 and A3 is illegal because columns 1, 2 and 3 tie for the largest count. C3, C4 and D3 is another legal pattern; there is no preselected leading row or column.
Exact conditional value
Live value starts at 0.97 times the virtual stake. A safe reveal divides it by that cell’s exact conditional safe probability among the remaining compatible legal layouts. A hazard ends the round with zero return. Reveals change knowledge, not the hidden layout.
Collect and unavailable choices
Collect is available after a safe reveal. Proven hazards are unavailable; proven-safe cells have probability 1 and add no value. A choice with next value above 1000 times stake is unavailable. When no eligible uncertain choice remains, the current value is banked automatically. The guard is not a promise that 1000×stake can be reached.
